Story

This fishboat, (shrimp) was built in 1968 by Bender Shipbuilding in Mobile, AL.

Historical Notes

Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 17/07/2024) stated "Like the other side of the harbor, most of the moored fishing boats were regulars I was familiar with; the exception being a relatively unique use of a shrimp trawler hull. WOLVERINE (512462) is one of only two examples I've encountered where one of the larger varieties of shrimp trawler has been regeared as a purse seiner, both of which work in the Southern California bait fish industry. Not entirely surprising, as seiners are few and far between on the eastern seaboard, and Alaska has a 58' LOA limit on the type that generally carries over into the Pacific Northwest as a matter of convenience (A handful of smaller shrimp boats have been regeared for that purpose, but they've been heavily modified and don't retain the iconic shrimp boat lines). WOLVERINE was built in 1968 by Bender Shipbuilding of Mobile to one of their standard shrimp boat designs, delivered as the RACKETEER to an owner out of Brownsville, Texas, then brought west to California around 1978."
