George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 27/11/2023) states "I did know that the crewboat MALAMA (639225) was under contract to the Navy and painted gray. I believe this vessel was built as FREEDOM RIVER for Trico Marine Management, although there's some hints this vessel had a brief life before that. This vessel later sailed as MISS JEAN and MISS LEIGH ANN before becoming MALAMA for P&R Water Taxi. I look at her and say this vessel is clearly a Swiftships product, but I've been corrected. This vessel was built by Swiftships Lafitte, which started life as the Dynamic Shipyard. I've been told that although this vesselhas a Swiftships house, her hull is distinctly different from their in-house products."
