Historische Notizen

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 27/06/2023) stated "The other ever-growing Southland company is Curtin Maritime, nominally based in Long Beach but still holding quite a presence in San Diego. On this trip I spotted their deck barge FALSE PT (1326663). This vessel is clearly one of the Navy's old SWOB (Sewage and Waste Oil) barges. These were very simple barges, 106 ft. long and quite narrow. 60 were built in the 1975-78 era in Puget Sound by Marine Power and Equipment Company of Seattle and Tacoma Boat Co. of Tacoma. As Navy ships began being outfitted with MSD's (Marine Sanitation Devices) for sewage and OWS's (Oily Water Separators) for bilge slops these barges became redundant.

They can't carry oil because they're not double-hulled, and don't have the deck strength to carry heavy cargoes, but many have survived, and this one was only documented last year, so I don't know where she's been hiding. Her hull number in her documentation records (10-00012) hints this vesselmay have been SWOB 12 in the Navy, but the syntax of that number isn't valid, so I might not be interpreting it correctly. "
