Historical Notes
Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 13/12/2021) stated "The former LST 1166 (928068), one of the post-war Navy LST's built by Christy Corp at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin in the 1950s. Later dubbed WASHTENAW COUNTY, this vesselsaw a decent degree of service in the Vietnam War, then was redesignated as a minesweeper (MSS 2) and sold in the early 1980's. Apparently never rebuilt for any clear purpose, this vessel eventually wound up with a group that intended restoration as a museum, but never got anywhere. For the last 15 years she's been falling apart at this location."
