La Reine (I)

In 1960 this vessel was partially dismantled to a bare hull by Capital Iron & Metals Ltd., Victoria BC Canada.

In 1994 this vessel sank off Goose Island when forward planks popped off the hull. The crew battled for 24 hours to save the ship before this vessel was abandoned. Michael Crowe (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 16/12/2017) Sttates that "Gonzalez was an interesting skipper.

He had left Chile when the leftists under Salvadore Allende took over. There was reading material on the boat for learning English which contained phrases like "Communism is the enemy of liberty" ["Communismo esso enemigo de libertad"} Jean was a European . A Walloon he said and he had been on the sea somewhere serving on the the axis side of WW2. [I think] but he was a good skipper and the ocean tide was a good safe boat with two blue cummings. I used to get up in the middle of every night and pump the bilges. I could pump and dream and watch the phosphorescence where the bilge water disturbed the ocean all at the same time. Other boats around us fishing were the Bering Sea [skipper nicknamed spaghetti] and the Lusty Lady."
