Story

This air-sea rescue craft was built in 1944 by Wilmington Boat Works Inc..

Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 30/09/2022) stated "the yacht ALASKAN SONG (256911), a converted 85-foot air-sea rescue boat. We historians argue over whether this class should be called an AVR or an ASR, but neither classification is official. In an odd twist, the Army designation for ambulance boats was P, while the picket (patrol) boats were Q. This one was built by the Wilmington (CA) Boat Works in 1944 as P-519. First documented in 1948, this vesselhas undergone modification under the names VIKING, NARVIK, and SWAN II."
