Historical Notes

Ollie and Janice Pedersen state "Helma is a 38 square meter spidsgatter built in 1938 in Kalundborg, Denmark. We purchased her in 2006 and after sailing her for ten years in Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands, decided to completely rebuild her from the keel up due to extreme iron sickness. We engaged Robert d'Arcy and Douglas Jones of Port Townsend to oversee her complete restoration over the last five years. The result was one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives; great friendships on top of a rebirth of a beautiful classic sailboat. The craftsmanship and creative investments for us are second to none. Heartfelt thanks to the many highly skilled people involved in Helma's restoration. Construction materials are Larch planking on oak frames. Teak decking over angelique frames. Purple heart for center line. Cabin is iron. Interior larch, mahogany, Port Orford cedar, and teak. Mast and boom are spruce. Total keel-up rebuild by Robert d'Arcy and Douglas Jones finished 2022. Sail rigging is Traditional wooden sloop sails and rigging. Sail suite by Carol Hasse. Rigging by Ian Weedman of Brion Toss Rigging."
