Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "the MARMAC 303 (1245062), the funny barge RHEA brought up from the Gulf, with deck extensions on both sides and outboard drives on all four corners. I also have learned more about her. With her there is the ex-oilfield supply boat NRC QUEST (1134613), which isn’t rigged for oil spill cleanup, and has had a plastic Quonset hut built over part of her deck. I learned the pair is working on developing a system where they can recover rocket boosters and return them for re-work instead of letting them sink. And no, they’re not going to pluck them out of the water. The plan is to put the barge where they’re going to drop, and use the last of the booster’s energy to slow the descent for a soft landing. I began asking questions, and was invited to mind my own business, so I don’t know if this is a venture NRC is involved in, or if they’re just chartering the boat to the people with the plan.
