Notes historiques
Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 13/12/2021) stated "One of my first steps on these trips is to check AIS for ships around Kalama, which is slightly out-of-the-way but can host some interesting traffic, which happened to be the case. For those not familiar with the area, Kalama, Washington is a somewhat sleepy town of 2,500 people sandwiched between some hills and the Columbia River, with I-5 and a major railroad corridor splitting the middle. Despite the small town-feel, a series of bulk terminals along the river also make Kalama one of the highest-volume export ports in the country. Right across the highway from downtown is a small boat basin and marina that has in recent years added a riverfront hotel and restaurant, apparently making it somewhat of a destination. Proof of that was moored to the riverbank, a couple of the Columbia River cruise ships that ply the waters from Astoria all the way inland to Lewiston, Idaho. Nearest was AMERICAN HARMONY (1288191), a 2019 product of Chesapeake Shipbuilding that somehow gets away with being measured at 98 GT despite being 302 feet long. Interestingly, this vessel was showing off the bow door mechanism that was news to me."
