George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "Freeport Shipbuilding builds a wide variety of passenger boat designs? Hornblower operates a wide variety, too. HORNBLOWER DISCOVERY (1087062) was brought around from the East Coast where they bought her in 2019. This vessel now runs to Alcatraz with visitors. The pier at Alcatraz can barely accommodate a vessel of her length (135 ft) because the strong currents in that area don't allow for tying up a larger vessel with lines only protecting a part of her length. This boat seems like an odd fit for this run, but her great beam allows her to carry many more passengers than the narrower vessels of this length. Her peculair shape stems from her use on the Potomac River, where this vessel cruised for 20 years under the bridges around Washington DC until her owners lost their franchise to a more aggressive bidder. Her name then was NINA'S DANDY. ".
