This research vessel was built in 1978 by Nichols Brothers Boat Builders Inc. in Freeland, WA.
In 1978-1992 she was owned by Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game, Juneau AK USA.
In 1993-2026 she was owned by Dan Foley, Gustavus AK USA.
Named for Georg Wilhelm Steller, naturalist of the Great Northern Expedition (1733-1743).
