故事

This passenger vessel was built in 1955 by Steinwerder Industrie AG (Blohm and Voss AG) in Hamburg.

历史记录

In 1973 the Seafarers International Union,, displeased with the change of registration, set up a picket line and cited the Canada Shipping Act that states "no ship other than a British (including Canadian) ship shall transport passengers from one place in Canada to another place in Canada either directly or by way of a foreign port."An injunction was obtained banning the picketing but the schedule was disrupted." Troy Waters (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 20/02/2017) stated "The Xanadu was docked in Los Angeles harbor for many years under a different name … the Faithful I think? this vessel was the floating hotel for a religious cult that was active in the area." George Schneider states "The Aurora was originally Wappen Von Hamburg, but was replaced by a newer vessel by that name and sold to Greek owners. This vessel was picked up for the Alaska run in 1967 and has been on the U. S. West Coast ever since. Since being sold by Park West Childrens Fund, various groups have intended to re-use her for charity or business uses, most recently as an ocean liner museum, to be named Aurora." On May 22, 2024 this vessel sank at Little Potato Slough, 7 miles west of Stockton in California where she had been laid up in 2012.

She was refloated and towed to the breaker's yard in Mare Island in December 2024." - World Ship Society Marine News ,Volume 79, No.4, April 2025, page 246.
