On March 10, 1927 this freighter owned by the Isthmian Line hit the Second Narrows Railway Bridge and caused $80,000 damage. This vessel hung on the fixed span for nearly two hours but salvage engineers had her removed to a safe anchorage. The bridge was not put out of commission. This vessel was outbound for New York at the time of the incident with a cargo of lumber. At Murmansk, on May 27, 1942, Alamar was attacked by German aircraft and hit several times. This vessel was torpedoed and scuttled by the British submarine H.M.S. Trident (N 52) as a hazard to navigation.
