George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 06/06/2024) stated "came across a vessel I'd been told could be seen from Interstate 8 (Old US Route 80) near Alpine CA. She's one of the Navy Special Forces "Mark-V" craft, built by U.S. Marine Inc (under a Halter Marine contract) in the 1990s and now out of service. This one was auctioned at San Diego in 2021 as 82NS9504, and now sits in a storage lot awaiting its fate.
She was originally given a camouflage paint job trying to mask her identity among the waves, but the oxidizing of the paint has made for an eye-catching color scheme."
