Historical Notes
From Ernest Tanner Website: "In 1986 the Higgs family gathered for a large reunion at the old homestead to mark the first hundred years. During this reunion, the newly launched Kloshie Bay wooden boat was commissioned to usher in that historic event. Along with the name, the family crest is also displayed upon the funnel of this classic West Coast vessel. The hull design and construction is the work of the late George Bruigham. It was modeled after the North Sea Trawler designs that are so famous for seaworthiness. The rest of the vessel was constructed over a six year period by Captain Joe Higgs of Nanaimo BC Canada. His life long passion for the coastal tugs is evidenced by the traditional wheelhouse and heavy timer construction. The fine joining and the attention to detail throughout the vessel represent his wood working skills. With 250 gallons of fuel in her tanks, this vesselhas the safe cruising range of over 1,000 nautical miles. The hull and scantlings are Douglas Fir and the Ribs are Oak. The Decks are Western Red Cedar and all the deck beams and cabin framing is Cypress. Interior furnishings and cabinets are solid 3/4 inch Oak, the Hull is lined with tongue and groove Cherry wood. ."

Name Significance
From Ernest Tanner Website: "The name Kloshie Bay comes from the small, protected nook on the south end of South Pender Island. This is where the Higgs family first settled upon arrival in Canada in 1886. The Name "Kloshie" has been shorted from the Chinook Words Kloshe Illahee, which means The Good Land, or The Good Place."
