Historische Notizen

Her Canadian Registry was closed 2011-11-03. Andrew Clarke (13/04/2017) reports that "she is now in Seattle WA USA running fish from Alaska. I rebuilt her when I owned her." Caleb Elkins (Email to Nauticapedia 01/08/2019) stated that 'I was a deck hand on an old Canadian seiner named the Mary Kay, formerly the Mary Todd. We were a salmon tender for Silver Bay Seafoods out of Sitka AK in the summer of 2012. I met the boat in Port Townsend WA earlier that summer and on July 27th 2012 we were crossing Dixon Entrance and this vessel sank off of Cape Chacon. That incident inspired me to become a shipwright and I still fish commercially." The US National Transportation Safety Board reported (July 26, 2012) reported that this vessel sank in Dixon Entrance, Alaska (54°38.015′ N, 132°04.334′ W), Near Cape Chacon, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. Previously in 2012 on arriving in Bellingham WA , the Mary Kay lost operational control and consequently allided with a dock in port. The damage to the hull of the Mary Kay was not investigated , perhaps because the estimated damage was less than the required reportable amount. The Mary Kay next visited Sitka, Alaska, on July 9 , 2012 , where the vessel grounded twice on the boat launch (made of cement) in Sitka harbor. The National Transportation Safety Board determine s that the probable cause of the sinking of the Mary Kay was the captain ’s failure to identify and correct the sources of the through hull leaks. " Drew Clarke (Email to Nauticapedia 24/11/2021) stated "Caleb Elkins reported that prior to her finally going down they hit a steel bouy at full speed dead on...this was the final blow...she had been damaged at the stem on herring , ramming another vessel while docking (seems air controls are a mystery to some "skippers") so, in less than a month, after 90 days on the hard at pt townsend shipyard getting bottom planks etc, this vessel collided with a dock bow first, and bounced her stern off a cement abutment twice, this vessel then nailed a steel marker bout head-on as the coup de gras...all in less than a month."
