On February 25, 1965 this vessel was in a collision with the barge Island Express in Quatsino Sound BC Canada. This vessel is no longer registered in Canada. Rolf Leben (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 05/12/2019) stated "The Tyee Shell was inbound to Mahatta River and the Island Express barge was rounding Salmon Island, with the Island Commander on its outside, outbound.
They saw each other too late and the Island Express plowed into the Port Aft-end of the Tyee Shell. One crew member on the Tyee was crushed to death."
