Historia

This fishboat, troller was built in 1945 by Peterson, Isaac in Powell River, BC.

Notas históricas

Original hull cedar on oak ribs, fir decks. The vessel was rebuilt with 3/8" strip planks covered in fibreglass. On February 6, 2014, the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) informed the Administrator that an old ex-fishing vessel, Baltic II, was abandoned at its mooring in Deep Bay, Vancouver Island. It was reported by the Deep Bay Harbour Authority to be at risk of sinking and discharging oil. CCG Environmental Response personnel from Victoria boarded and assessed the vessel. It was confirmed that the derelict contained oils, which could not be safely and effectively cleaned where the vessel was moored. Due to the potential for oil pollution damage to the local aquaculture industry, should the Baltic II sink and discharge fuel oil, CCG decided to remove the vessel and dispose of it ashore. Colin Parkinson reports that "On Friday, Feb. 7 at approximately 9 a.m., the Coast Guard towed the derelict vessel away from the Deep Bay Harbour, removed it from the water and disposed of it at an appropriate facility."
