This vessel was wrecked on November 23, 1915 in Shelter Bay east of Portland Point BC Canada. Five crew and the ship's dog were saved, 20 of a crew and passenger list of 25 were lost. At 6.30 am they signaled Pachena in hope of picking up a tug to tow the Carelmapu through the Straits. Day spent tacking back and forth in light wind awaiting a tug. By 6.00 pm wind was hard southeast gale and sails carried away. About 1 in morning wind shifted to southwest and land was some 4 miles distant. Anchors dropped. Steamer Princess Maquinna appeared and crew began abandoning ship. Then biggest squall yet broke and ship was carried across the corner of one of the numerous reefs, bringing up on rocks about 70 yards from cliffs.
