物語

This barkentine (5-masted) was built in 1919 by Gray's Harbor Motorship Corp., Aberdeen WA.

歴史的注記

Her masts were 160' tall. In October 1923 the barkentine Forest Friend, Capt. Alex. Zugehoer, lifted a cargo of 1,550,000 feet of lumber for San Pedro at Taylor's Mill at the south end of Lake Washington near Renton. This vessel was the first ocean vessel to berth at this extremity of the lake, Taylor's Mill having previously lightered its cargoes to vessels moored in Lake Union or Elliot Bay. This vessel was in mothball for many years while Hodder owned her. The barkentine Forest Friend, having been sold following a voyage to Australia, in 1927 passed to the Massey Mort Shipping Co. of Adelaide and was transferred from Newcastle for operation from the former port. This vessel was in service carrying hog fuel and wood chips between Port Alberni, Chemainus, to Port Townsend and Port Angeles WA USA. About 1950 this vessel was condemned and the Crown Zellerbach Lumber Co. used her as a breakwater at the Comox booming grounds. This vessel was sunk as a breakwater at Royston BC in the late 1950s. This vessel is now covered with rock and fill.
