Geschichte

This submarine chaser was built in 1943 by Fellows & Stewart Inc. in Terminal Island, CA.

Historische Notizen

From Navsource "this vessel was assigned patrol and escort duty on the west coast before departing for Pearl Harbor in August 1944. From Pearl Harbor this vessel escorted a convoy to Eniwetok and from there picked up another convoy to Kwajalein and then another for Guam. This vessel spent the remainder of the war in patrol and escort duty among the islands of Guam, Saipan and Tinian. On October 9, 1945 this vessel went aground during typhoon Louise at Okinawa but suffered no damage and was refloated when the tide rose and proceeded under her own power." Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 10/09/2025) stated "After a few years of nimbly evading Washington State DNR whack-a-mole, and a couple of other close calls with Davy Jones, the CAIRDEAS (WN9282JE), ex-Canada ON 192037, ex-USN SC 1372 finally had a lack of maintenance catch up with her while anchored in Sinclair Inlet out between Bremerton and Gorst." Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 24/09/2025) stated "The state DNR also reports that she ran aground on Dyes Inlet in June, 2024 after being improperly anchored, at which time she incurred some bottom damage. I would imagine that wound is what finally festered and became fatal. Last Friday a floating derrick was on site, so I was not surprised to learn that they got her up and temporarily patched early this week. Sounds like DNR's next step is to get her towed up to Port Townsend this week and deconstructed."
