物語

This passenger vessel was built in 1888 by Napier Shanks & Bell Yoker in Glasgow, Scotland.

歴史的注記

This vessel was first registered in Victoria in 1889. On August 15, 1901 this vessel struck an iceberg at Point Hilda, Stephen's Passage, off Douglas Island AK with loss of 42 lives.

In 1934 this vessel was raised and beached on Admiralty Island. This vessel was put back in service.

In 1936 this vessel collided with her tow the Island Gatherer (ex-Walksure, ex-William Dollar). David Hill-Turner (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 20/03/2017) states that "The Islander was partially salvaged, no safe was found and her remains are still on a nearby beach. Gold seekers now think safe was in the bow section that broke off. Only lawyers are finding gold as competing interests battle for salvage rights in the courts." This vessel arrived at Victoria BC on December 9, 1888 from Scotland. This vessel was put on the Vancouver-Victoria run December 30, 1888. On February 16, 1898 this vessel left for the Klondyke Gold Rush with 500 passengers. On August 14, 1898, at midnight, enroute from Skagway to Vancouver with 181 passengers this vessel struck an object and sank in deep water. In July 1934 her hull was raised and some bullion was recovered.
