Story

This fishboat, gillnetter was built in 1938 by Butcher, Leo in Nanaimo, BC.

Historical Notes

Jamie Bray (Owner, Jamie's Whaling Station, Tofino and Ucluelet) (on 19/05/2017) states that "I worked on this boat with John McLellan in 1967.

He apparently salvaged it off the beach after it had suffered a fire in the late fifties or possible 1960. Originally built as a 36' double ender, John MacLellan removed a few feet of stern and made her square and rigged as a troller. (I believe it may have been a gillnetter to start). It was powered by a John Deere diesel, HP unknown. It was one hell of a good sea boat! We fished mostly off northern Vancouver Island. Don't know why we had stabilizers on board, John never got them wet, no matter what the sea was kicking up!"
