In 1927 this vessel was taken north by her master, Captain S. A. Cornwell.
In 1925 this vessel was nearly trapped by ice but this vesselmanaged to escape to the south. This vessel arrived in the 1930s to serve the Western Arctic by the Hudson's Bay Company from Vancouver. In 11/1931 this vessel was returning home with all of the furs traded during the summer and a number of passengers. A new manager insisted that they push through poor ice conditions.
He should have dumped his cargo at Herschel Island and got the ship out of there, recalled Scotty Gall. “Pederson had gone out early, traded, landed cargo and out he went! They were trapped by the ice near Wainwright on the west coast of Alaska. This vessel was abandoned and the passengers were evacuated. The cargo of furs was left on board although it probably would have been possible to save them at the time. There was an insurance wrinkle which would have voided the coverage if the cargo had been removed. so it was left on board. The ship drifted in the ice, over long distances, for several years in the Chuckchi Sea. Inuit in Alaska made several salvage trips to the ship to bring out a bounty of furs which were still perfectly preserved in the hold. This vessel was a floating goldmine to those natives. The crew became qualified as Distressed British Seamen and were transported south to Seattle.
