Story
This tug, river was built in 1980 by Canada Marine Industries Ltd. in New Westminster, BC.
Historical Notes
Wade Baucke (British Columbia Nautical History Facebook Group 21/08/2019) stated that "it was built in a shack on the river bank in Sapperton slough near Fraser Mills in 1980. I was working on the Seaspan river tugs at the time, so we would keep an eye on her during the construction as we went by. Maybe someone can verify this, the story going around at the time was the tug was being built to duplicate the Westminster Hyack , but the builders did not have the actual plans for the Hyack because they did not want to pay the amount of money being asked for a set of plans. Every so often when the builders needed specific info someone would sneak onto the Hyack with a tape measure and camera and covertly get what they needed. Does anyone else out there know more about this odd bit of history, or can confirm it is actually true. Once completed this vessel went to Port Alberni for the first ten years of her life, then back to the Vancouver area and full time work at Cates, Seaforth and Seaspan since." Sean Murphy stated "My father formed Canada Marine and built the Pacific Force for Pacific Towing and the hull of the H.N. Hodder before going bankrupt. Hodder finished his tug in the building while the receiver was in control in 1980/1981."
