Historische Notizen

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 30/09/2022) stated "Very few American processors are purpose-built, although many classed as conversions are actually foreign-built ships using token parts of former fishing vessels to qualify as "Rebuilds." On this trip, all of those "non-conversions" were already up working in Alaskan waters. Another unique conversion is OCEAN FRESH (509280). This vessel was built in 1967 by Albina in Portland as a package freighter. This vessel had no cargo gear, and was loaded through side doors by forklifts handling palletized cargo. This vessel was the last of a series of these operating for C & H Sugar.

They have a processing plant in the small, remote town of Crockett CA, where Matson ships used to come in with cane molasses in their deep tanks, the plant turned it into sugar products, and then shipped the packaged products via these boats to the cargo piers around San Francisco where it was delivered to waiting ships. This vessel was sold in 1985 to Peter Pan Seafoods and renamed BLUE WAVE, ending the sugar delivery service. This vessel was renamed OCEAN FRESH in 2005."
