Histoire

This oilfield supply vessel was built in 1967 by Universal Iron Works in Houma, LA.

Notes historiques

George Schneider (July 2026) writes: Originally she was an oilfield "Utility Boat," a category of vessel designed with a full-displacement hull to carry supplies to offshore rigs, but also allowed to carry "Passengers" (typically oilfield workers). With her passenger certification already in place, it was probably easy to get her classed for carrying passengers, although neither her deep displacement nor high horsepower made her a perfect fit in that role.

In 1968-1974 she was owned by W. B. Kornegat, Morgan City LA USA.

In 1981-1989 she was owned by Genina Marine Services Inc., Morgan City LA USA.

In 1992-2004 she was owned by Wagner Cruises Ltd., Chicago IL USA.

In 2005-2011 she was owned by Great Lakes Development LLC, Munster IN USA.

In 2017-2026 she was owned by Chicago Lakefront Cruises LLC, Chicago IL USA.

Signification du nom

"Summer of George" refers to the title of an episode of the comedy TV series Seinfeld. It's an odd name for an excursion boat, because in the episode, although the intention was to have a complete summer of indolence, it turned into a complete disaster.
