Story

This lighter (open) was built in 1945 by United Engine Co. in Alameda, CA.

Historical Notes

In 1970-1999 this vessel was employed at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. George Schneider (June 2026) writes: Although YFP's are generally considered electrical generating barges, I believe YFP 2 and YFP 3 were converted to supply steam to ships being decommissioned at San Diego so their steam auxiliaries could still run while the boilers were being preserved. In this photo, there are two barges in front of her, a SWOB and a YC. Even so, the photo shows the deckhouses and mast that were added. A better (but non-proprietary) view is on the Navsource site referenced below.

Owners & Masters

In 1945-1999 she was owned by the United States Navy.

In 1999 she was transferred to the Port of Long Beach to support the "redevelopment" of the former Long Beach Naval facilities.
