Notes historiques
During the Second World War this vessel was stationed in Pearl Harbour, this vessel served for the remainder of the war as a convoy escort and patrol boat between Pearl Harbour and Midway. This vessel was decommissioned in San Pedro, California, in late 1945. This vessel was struck from the naval register in early 1946 and her Union L8 diesel engines were removed and sold.
In 1947, this vessel was sent for disposal. This vessel was bought in Oakland and towed to Eureka, where this vessel was tied up to Hammond Lumber Co. dock 'til the weather and tides were right to bring her to the banks of the Smith River (now the site of Ship Ashore motel) where for 15 years this vessel served as a restaurant, cocktail lounge, gift and tackle shop, motel office and museum. Over the years this vessel became the community's most prominent landmark, where this vessel is affectionately known as "The Ship." In 1965 this vessel was dryberthed at Smith River USA. As of 2016 it was no longer open as a part of the facility, and needs repairs. There was some talk of refloating her and restoring her as a yacht, since others in similar condition have found rich buyers who see the charm in these old vessels.
