Notes historiques
George Schneider (Feb 2026) writes: 192 feet overall length, she's said to be designed to resemble a 1925 New England passenger steamer. She's an overnight passenger boat with 49 all-outside cabins. Although designed for the East Coast, she only lasted a few years there before being brought through the Panama Canal and has remained in the Alaska trade ever since.
In 1989 she served as a hotel ship during the Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup. Kyle Stubbs (Feb 2026) writes: On paper she was renamed SAFARI LEGACY in 2011, but I have plenty of photographic evidence that she just wore the old SPIRIT OF '98 name until they started repainting her as SS LEGACY in 2013.
