故事

This underwater construction support vessel was built in 2003.

历史记录

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 12/12/2025) stated "at 10th Avenue was the vessel that made me decide to come to the harbor. This vessel also has had many colors.

She was built in Norway in 2003 as an underwater construction support boat named SEAWAY PETREL (IMO 9268629), and as such had a yellow hull.

In 2007 she became ACERGY PETREL and got a red hull.

She kept the same coloring in 2013 when she became SEVEN PETREL, but in 2016 she was purchased by the wealthy Paul Allen to support his interest in locating historic shipwrecks. When the boat capsized in a drydock in Scotland in 2023, it became publicly known that the U. S. Navy had obtained the vessel from Allen's estate after his death. Photos showed a Navy boat number across the front of her house, 77MNS0301. But I was surprised to see her in San Diego this week with the name SARAH LYNN. I confirmed her identity by the IMO number showing on AIS for her. I can only guess the recent renaming is another politically motivated effort; perhaps a Navy vessel named after a bird is considered too DEI for the U. S. military. That Navy bot number still shows on her, although obscured by the focs'le railing in this shot. "
