Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 12/12/2025) stated "Also looking South from the end of the tour boat's south loop I could see a new drydock at the Austal shipyard. We'd been told of a new drydock they were building in 2023 to accommodate LCS's, and this is the first evidence I'd seen of it. I'll cover it when I get a good shot of her, and perhaps by then I'll also have more information on her. But the arrival of a new drydock at GD's Nassco Shipyard was very well covered.

She was completed this year at a shipyard in Turkiye brought by transport vessel to Los Angeles, and then towed down here for service. At least so far she doesn't have a cutesie name like the other local drydocks have, she's documented simply as DRY DOCK #3 (1359405). Nassco's previous large drydock, NASSCO BUILDER (undocumented) was built in Japan in 1983, and has now been sold to Everett Ship Repair, who have renamed her HERCULES."
