Historische Notizen

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 04/07/2025) stated "One major buyer of surplus equipment in our area is Pacific Tug Boat. Roughly half their fleet is from government surplus.

They overflow their dock here, and their barges can be seen all over the harbor. I'd go so far as to say they have barges on top of barges. And here's why: Today was the first time I'd ever seen their barge PTS 230 (645121).

They bought it last year, and in raised letters you can still read her previous name, LOGISTICS PROVIDER.

She was built by Zidell's Tacoma yard in 1982 as SPARTAN 112. Although Zidell began building barges using plates cut from the Liberty ships they scrapped, I've only seen that mentioned for their vessels built at their Portland yard. On the deck of this vessel are two former Navy YC's. One was clearly marked YC 1494, which was auctioned at Pearl Harbor a year ago, so I assume the other was the other one auctioned with her, YC 1485, and they've only just arrived from there."
