This icebreaker was built in 1975 by Baltic Shipbuilding & Engineering Works in Leningrad.
On August 17, 1977 this vessel reached the North Pole. It was retired for several years, but was repaired and put back into service in the late 1990s.
In 1975-1977 she was owned by Atomflot, USSR.
