Historical Notes
George Schneider states (Email to Nauticapedia 24/05/2024) that "I hope to get better shots of her, but a newcomer to the Navy support fleet is the HOS MAUSER (ON 1211932 / IMO 9515852.) She's new to the Hornbeck fleet, one of more than 100 supply boats built by Chouest at their own shipyards to a similar, recognizable design, although they varied in length from 220 to 300 feet in length due to varying lengths of midsections built into them. This was one of the later units, built at 280 feet, and originally named GáVEA, a Brazilian place-name, indicating that she was originally built for charter to Petrobras during its offshore expansion boom that quickly fell on its face under a cloud of corruption."
