There is no record of this vessel having been registered in the records of Libraries and Archives Canada. Blair Jean stated (Email to Nauticapedia 07/02/2025) "The MV Northern Chief was built by Capt. John Matheson of the Northern Boat Building Company Ltd. in 1929."

In 1929 she was owned by the MacInnes Fish Co., Edmonton AB Canada.
