⚓

Biografía

He was a brother of Thomas Wright and George S. Wright. (He was qualified as a Master Mariner.)

Anécdotas

In 1849 he went to California for the Gold Rush. "John T. (Wright) gained knowledge of the steamship business working out of the metropolis on his father John senior’s vessels.

In 1849, John headed off to the California gold fields, but unlike a lot of fortune seekers, he actually made money panning for gold and within six months had cleared $15,000 panning on the American River. After that adventure, he headed back down to the coast to work in his father’s San Francisco based steamship company. Here he started out serving as an engineer on the Sea Bird, Goliath?? and other vessels owned by the elder Wright, but eventually went on with his brothers to acquire an interest in the business, the California Steam Navigation Company. The steamer which was to bear his name was intended for service on the Puget Sound run...."
