传记
George Plawski escaped from communist Poland in 1946 to be reunited with his father, a Captain in the Polish Navy in exile, who’d been serving in England since 1939. After his mother’s harrowing escape a year later, at the invitation of Rear-Admiral Rollo Mainguy RCN, the family emigrated to Canada in 1948 where they settled in Duncan. His father worked in the Chemainus lumber mill until 1952 when he was offered a job in the RCMP Special Branch in Victoria, which is where George Plawski joined the UNTD while attending Victoria College. After switching to the Regular Force in 1953, he spent the next eleven years in the navy where he became a pilot flying off the carrier, HMCS Bonaventure. After leaving the service in 1964, he returned to UBC where he completed post graduate studies in theatre directing, which led to his founding of City Stage Theatre. His summer job flying the TBM Avenger for Skyway Air Services bombing forest fires and spraying budworm in New Brunswick allowed him to pay for five years of university and became his 35 year lifetime profession.
He flew for Sis-Q Flying Service in California, for Kenting Aviation in Toronto, and from 1964, 25 years for Conair Aviation in Abbotsford where he flew A 26 Invaders, 15 years on the Douglas DC 6, and four years in the Firecat.
