He was appointed as a Lieutenant (jg) USN.
He was appointed as a Lieutenant USN.
He was appointed as a Lieutenant-Commander USN.
He was appointed as a Commander USCG.
In 1957 he commanded the USCGC Storis and travelled as part of a Coast Guard Squadron (Storis, Spar and Bramble) west to east through the North West Passage.
They were the first US Coast Guard vessels to transit the Passage.
