Historical Notes

Kyle Stubbs (Email to Nauticapedia 01/12/2023) wrote "Many boats in that employment are often good for cheeky naming conventions, and GRAND POOBAH (667767) is no exception. Meanwhile, her manufacture is a tad bit up-in-the-air. MVUS data includes a build location of San Francisco, year of 1984, an absent builder, and a HIN of DMS001400280. The HIN is enough to peg her to Eugene Dahme (or Dahme Marine), who seems to have built a number of 40-ft fiberglass fishing vessel hulls at Port Townsend, Washington in 1980. The boats appear to have been completed over the next three or four years, and this isn't the only one that seems to have been finished elsewhere. The 40-ft hull HINs seem to have a numbering convention with "14," "24," 34," so this may be "hull #1," even though this vessel was among the last completed. The MVUS dark ages strike again, but this vesselmay have been delivered as the fishing vessel BLUEFISH II, and the hold space from that career probably lent itself well to her current lot in life."
