Story

This tug was built in 1991 by Bollinger Marine Fabricators in Lockport, LA.

Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 27/11/2023) states "One veteran tug I hadn't seen so far was HOKU-LOA (972233, IMO 9032795). This vessel follows an oilfield anchor-handler design built by Bollinger in the 1970s and -1980s, but was built for Young Brothers in 1991. The tall house and long fantail aren't common among American ocean line tugs, and I'm wondering if Young Brothers found this desirable and it inspired the KAPENA class two decades later. "

Owners & Masters

In 1991-2025 she was owned by Young Brothers, Honolulu HI USA.

In 2025-2026 she was owned by Kevin Dawn LLC (Dawn Services) of New Orleans LA USA, but as of mid-2026 her name had not been changed.

Name Significance

Name has a dash in it, both on the hull and on her documents. In Hawaiian, the name translates to "Long Star" or "Distant Star" but is used to refer to the planet Venus.
