Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 12/10/2022) stated "Another impressive museum ship that still operates on the Bay is the former Presidential yacht POTOMAC (250808). Built by Manitowoc SB as the Coast Guard cutter ELECTRA, this vessel was transferred to the Navy in 1935 and converted into the USS POTOMAC (AG 25), official yacht for President F.D. Roosevelt. After his death this vessel was disposed of, and her condition declined over the years until this vessel sank in the Oakland estuary. During almost 15 years of restoration, in which this vessel was cut back to just her frames and meticulously rebuilt, 15 million dollars were spent to restore her. "
