Story

This patrol vessel was built in BC.

Historical Notes

Mike Slade (Email to Nauticapedia 28/08/2019) stated that "My family purchased this vessel in 1976 and we are still the owners to this day. The vessel made its way to Newfoundland in the early 1970s to be a training vessel for HMCS Cabot in St. Johns NL . I am hoping that someone on your staff can help me find out more about its history. I believe this vessel was built somewhere in BC and was possibly used in the BC forestry service at some point. The name of the vessel is still Langara and her registration number is 5M3642. This vessel was brought to NL from Halifax on the Coast Guard Ship Narwhal in 1974 and was previously the Queen’s Harbour Master’s boat in Halifax. Langara was used as a training vessel for HMCS Cabot in St. John's NL and was replaced by the ex Royal Canadian Mounted Police vessel Acadia. The vessel was placed on Government tender and sold to the Slade family of Arnolds Cove NL in 1976 and underwent refit in 1987 (stern was changed from round to square) and again in 1992 (fibre glassed hull). "
