Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "I caught this shot of the Sea Scout vessel NORTHLAND. She's a 100-foot surplus Navy torpedo retriever, built in 1978 by Peterson's in Sturgeon Bay WI as 100TR771. This vessel operated under the unofficial name PHOENIX. This vessel became surplus in 2004 and became the Sea Scout boat NORTHLAND (CF6319YB) for the Richmond "ship". This vessel doesn't see much action, maybe gets out once or twice a year. That's too bad; the Bay Area is a great place for cruising. She's shown in one of the graving docks of the former Richmond Shipyard, now just used as berthing slips. To the right is the museum ship RED OAK VICTORY, and behind her is the CALIFORNIA HORNBLOWER undergoing upgrades. "
