Historical Notes

On February 9, 1903 this vessel was stranded in heavy weather 1.5 miles southwest of the light at Cape Disappointment. It was determined that the vessel strayed out of the marked channel. The crew were saved the next morning. The vessel was salvaged several weeks later, towed to Esquimalt BC for repairs.

In 1906 this bark under Captain Ludwig Althaber, left Callao/Peru on November 26th 1906 bound for Sydney Heads with a crew of 30 men. The ship was never seen again. It is believed this vessel sank in a heavy gale in the southern Pacific about January 18th 1907.
