Historical Notes
George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "the CG 26302. These are called "Over-the-Horizon" boats, meaning they're carried by seagoing cutters and are intended to go for targets beyond the visible range of the cutter. The intention, I believe, is that the cutter would then be beyond the visual range of the vessel they intend to investigate and the small boat's size and speed would add a factor of surprise to catch the target and hold it while the mother ship approaches. I didn't detect a cutter in port that may have been the mother ship for this one, but I didn't realize then that even the little 154-foot WPC's carry these craft.
They don't stay permanently assigned to a single vessel, anyway; I've seen the same craft on three different cutters, so they obviously rotate them out for maintenance ashore. This one is considered an OTH MK IV, and was built by Safe Boats about 2015."
