Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "). I figured this vessel was just generically familiar as a lowlife tour boat, but in looking her up, found out this vessel was an old friend. In San Pedro, back when I had my first commercial job running the boat to Catalina, there were two little wooden boats out of Ports O'Call village named LANI KAI and LULU KAI, trying to toss the Polynesian aura that was popular at that time. Just 45 feet long, they obviously just traded on "the Experience." LANI KAI is still working in Los Angeles Harbor, pinch-hitting in their spotty tour boat industry, but shorn of her bamboo and palm fronds. LULU KAI had tried another tact down there with the name CHEERS, but disappeared pretty quickly, and now I find she's somehow making her way in the sloppy waters of San Francisco Bay as WINE THERAPY."
