Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 07/12/2021) stated "PACIFIC PEARL (580783) is a boat that takes passengers on sport fishing trips. Out here we call them Sport-Fishers. On the East Coast they're called Party- or Head-boats. In the Gulf I think they're called Neighbor Bubba's Pirogue. This is one of literally hundreds of fiberglass boats built by Delta Marine of Seattle, before they began focusing on construction of large luxury yachts. I bring this up because California is once again in the market for mass-production sportfishers. California has set a timetable for changing to reduced-emissions engines, and there are even remarkable grants available for buying and installing the engines. But most of the existing sportfishers are old, and barely have room for the first-generation diesels they have. No Tier-4 engine is made that can fit in them, so much of the fleet is faced with having to build new boats, at several million dollars each, if the owners are going to stay in business. The market would be ripe for an experienced boatbuilder to work with the owners, design a standard that could be mass-produced, and maybe also carry the financing, since they'd be the best ones to re-sell any boats that have to be forfeited."
