Story

This barkentine (3-masted) was built in 1854 in New Bedford, MA.

Historical Notes

On November 10, 1899 the barkentine Jane A. Falkenberg was caught in a violent storm while en route to San Francisco from Alaska. This vessel lost her rigging and was adrift for six days with heavy seas washing over her. The Walla Walla saved Captain Marden and his crew of eight. The hulk was picked up and towed by the tug Lorne into Esquimalt Harbour two days after being abandoned. The Lakme towed the damaged Jane A Falkenberg to Nome and sold the vessel and cargo as salvage. This vessel was purchased by the Northern Commercial Company. On October 26, 1903 this vessel was scuttled to become a breakwater at St. Michael Alaska.
