Story

This fleet replenishment was built in 2021 by National Steel & Shipbuilding Co (NASSCO) in San Diego, CA.

Historical Notes

George Schneider (Email to Nauticapedia 29/10/2022) stated "One morning the new Navy oiler USNS JOHN LEWIS (T-AO 205) passed us in the harbor. This vessel was delivered last August by the GD Nassco shipyard (I wasn't cursing) and is the first of the replacement class of oilers being built there. The contracts now number 8 of them, with three in various stages of construction at the yard. These replace the HENRY J KAISER class which were designed before the Navy decided to join the double-hull bandwagon. If all the older units are to be replaced several more will need to be ordered. Interestingly, the oldest, the KAISER, is not among the units scheduled so far to be decommissioned as the new ships come on-line."
